Roderick Powell is the founder and president of trend-setting Roderick Powell Entertainment.
The company serves as the umbrella organization for Powell's entertainment ventures, including
film and tv production, music production and distribution, model/talent management, and fashion.
Powell founded the film production company R.A.P. FilmWorks LLC in Atlanta, GA, in 1998.
Powell wrote, directed, and produced his first feature film "Preacher Player" in 1999.
The movie stars Leslie "Stretch" Boston as a womanizing con-man posing as a preacher.
After a successful film festival circuit run, the film was released on DVD as "Preachin' to the Sistas."
The film has become a cult classic and is now being adapted into a stage play.
Chicago-based playwright Calvin King is slated to direct the stage adaptation.
Powell's second feature film "Honeybee" starring Senait Ashenafi ("General Hospital"),
James Avery ("Fresh Prince of Bel Air"), and Chrystale Wilson ("The Players Club") was one
of the first female boxing movies ever produced and pre-dated Clint Eastwood's "Million Dollar Baby."
"Honeybee" screened at film festivals in the US and abroad. The film later aired on Cable and Network TV.
The film is being distributed by Lions Gate and Urban Entertainment.
Powell's third feature film "A Miami Tail," an urban take on the classic Greek play Lysistrata,
stars rappers Trina and Mr. Cheeks, as well as comedians Sommore and Benji Brown.
The film premiered at the American Black Film Festival and is being distributed by Lions Gate.
